Description
This American Mint commemorative coin honors Abraham Lincoln and his historic Peoria Speech delivered on October 16, 1854. The coin features a detailed portrait of Abraham Lincoln on one side with the inscription “ABRAHAM LINCOLN LIFE AND LEGACY 1809-1865.” The reverse side depicts Lincoln seated in a chair with a quote from his speech and the inscription “ABRAHAM LINCOLN’S PEORIA SPEECH OCTOBER 16, 1854.”
The coin is copper silverplated, weighs 32 grams, and measures 40 mm in diameter. It is a proof-quality collectible issued in 2009 with a limited mintage of 9999 complete collections.
The Peoria Speech was a significant moment in American history where Lincoln denounced slavery and called for redress of its evils, marking a pivotal step toward the Civil War.
